Divorce Parties

I've blogged in the past about divorce parties and how more and more people are finding ways to celebrate their divorce. Whether you wanted to plan a party for your closest friends or throw a shindig for a large group of divorced strangers, there was a reason to let loose down in Fort Lauderdale recently. A bar owner in Fort Lauderdale opened up his club to 400 or so divorced people looking to party and commiserate. I'm still not sold on the idea that a divorce should be celebrated, but I definitely understand the relief that many people feel after their divorce is finalized, and that in some circumstances a party may be appropriate.

South Florida’s first-ever Divorce Party was held at Christopher's Nightclub in Fort Lauderdale on Friday, March 7th. The event featured free and discounted drink specials, games, prizes, gifts and more, to celebrate new beginnings for women and men who are ready to move past divorce. About 400 people attended, and were encouraged to invite their friends, bring their sense of humor, and have a fabulous evening totally focused on fun!

The event was hosted by Christina Rowe and Rosalind Sedacca. We have both written books, based on our own personal experiences, with valuable messages for people facing divorce. The theme of the Divorce Party was: Laugh, let go and move on. Your new life begins now!

Our approach was to connect with divorcing or divorced people in a light-hearted, fun way through a Divorce Party at a popular night club. By offering creative games, contests, music, free drinks, prizes and a free Goodie Bag, we invited attendees to release some energy and have a great evening in a safe, supportive environment.

With tongue-in-cheek we planned a full roster of activities, games and contests along with dancing to your favorite break-up songs.

However, the theme was not about bashing and revenge. Our books, CDs and seminars offer sound advice about a very serious subject. But everyone needs time to kick up their heels and laugh, especially when life is stressful. The Divorce Party concept was our way of encouraging people to add balance to their lives. Laughter, especially at ourselves, is one of the healthiest things we can do.

The event was so successful we're repeating it again on April 4th at Christopher's Night Club in Ft. Lauderdale. More information and VIP registration can be found at www.datingafteryourdivorce.com.

I couldn't agree more with you. Why isolate yourself? Bring your friends together to help take the edge off and toast the new life you're building post-divorce! www.firstwivesworld.com's divorce expert Debbie Nigro recently interviewed Melinda Konopko, co-founder of PlumParty, about how to throw a seperation/divorce party. Check out the segment at

Just my two cents

Thanks for your two cents, Ann Marie. I'm impressed with the work they're doing at firstwivesworld.com. I also love the idea of PlumParty's innovative approaches to throwing a divorce party for positive closure.

Keep in mind that when you divorce as a parent there is never a closure. You remain parents to your children for decades to come. So it is essential to start on the right footing and keep your relationship in the most positive possible mode for the sake of your children.

That's the purpose behind my life's work, my Child-Centered Divorce Network and my new book, How Do I Tell the Kids about the Divorce? A Create-a-Storybook Guide to Preparing Your Children -- with Love! Visit me at www.childcentereddivorce.com for free articles, ezine, blog and a host of valuable resources for parents.

Best wishes to all,
